Trust in the Lord: Psalm 37:3

Today we’re going to
muse and meditate on Psalm 37:3. Maybe you’re familiar with it. On Wednesday,
I’ll unpack it and give a practical application! I hope you’ll join me.
Here it is in a
couple other versions:
“Trust in
the Lord, and do good; so shalt thou
dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.” KJV
“Trust in the Lord, and do good;
Dwell in
the land, and feed on His faithfulness.” NKJV
Musing/Meditation prompts: Do I trust in the
LORD? Remember over past things you’ve trusted God for and how He’s taken care
of you. Think on those moments of comfort when you trusted God in uncertain
times–what other scriptures did He use to “feed” you during those
times? Look those up and reflect. What does “dwell” mean to you?
What is one thing you will do today to show that you put your trust in
God?

*Wednesday, we’ll unpack this verse and take a deep look at what it means and I’ll give a practical application. Hope you’ll join me!
*Feel free to pin the photo to your Pinterest board!

  1. "Feed on his faithfulness." Ooh, that's awesome. A few months ago, I heard a pastor say in a sermon that in our quest to be like Christ, we have to "starve our flesh." That phrase really stuck with me…starving our flesh. I love how this verse gives the other side…"feed on his faithfulness."

Something I will do today to show I've put my trust in Christ: Refuse to worry about things I can't control.

    1. How did it go? Did you worry? 🙂

  2. Oooh, good question. Hmmmmmm. I have an idea of what I'll do. Thanks Jessica! Have an awesome week. 🙂

    1. Did you do your idea? How did it turn out? Good? 🙂 Hoping your week is just as awesome!

  3. Love!! One thing I can do today is revise my ms and stop worrying about whether it will be good enough for an agent. God's helping me to make it as good as it can be. It may receive rejections, but it won't be for lack of trying.

And when I look back at how God has led me down the writing journey path, I'm constantly amazed. The two largest things to happen to me happened out of the blue, through no initial effort of my own. God's got this. I don't wanna forget that.

Can't wait to read your application!

    1. You're right. We have to pray and believe that God is ordering our fingers across the keyboards and yep, we're still human and make mistakes–even in revising! I always prayed, "Lord, I'm not perfect and neither is this ms, but I've prayed about it, over it and I believe I've done the best I could so I'm praying that she won't see perfection, but potential." Totally gave me peace. 🙂

  4. I'm going to try and not worry today. I'm just going to trust in Him.
    Can't wait until wednesday!

    1. Well, how'd you do? Did you worry? 🙂

  5. I am definitely pinning the photo to my "The Word" board. Thanks, Jess.
And I am trusting God today with my time. I have things I want to do … and others who want/need my time …

    1. Thanks, Beth! Trusting God with time. That's one I fret about especially since I'm a routine person. When something blows in and messes with my time, I freak a tad. 🙂 How'd it go?

  6. I'm not going to listen to the doubt and worry thrown at me by the enemy. Great post, Jess.

    1. Ah! A great way to trust God! Tune out the doubt. That's tough sometimes. Praying you made it through your day? Did you? 🙂

  7. I like what Melissa said…I will trust God and quit worrying about what I cannot control.

    1. How'd it go? That's so hard, especially for us control-freaks…or those with control-freakish tendencies! lol 🙂

  8. I loved this, Jess. I was reading Psalm 56 this morning and Matthew Henry's Commentary on this and trust was the theme that kept coming out to me. Then I came over here:)Definitely deepened my morning devo time:)

    1. Awesome! I love it when I'm studying and then out of the blue God affirms what He's been saying earlier. 🙂 Yay!

  9. Today I've decided to trust God by letting go of the little things. I'm giving my children the freedom to start making more of their own choices (not micro-managing all the little details). I forget that they are getting older and needing me less. Kind of bitter-sweet.

    1. It is bitter-sweet, but that's our responsibility to teach our children independence and the foundations of Christian living then pray with all get-out it takes! lol

But seriously, you're being a great mom letting your children make their own choices and when they fail at making the right ones, you have an awesome opportunity for godly, teachable moments. 🙂

  10. Oh Gabe, I know that feeling.
But honey, needing you less does not include what you think. Yes, they need to do the little things on their own, but as they get older, you'll be stunned when the things they need you for are things that could hurt them. They will trust you in different ways, and they'll watch you with older eyes. They will always need you. My 15 year old actually asked me to make his sandwich for school because he likes to know that when he sits down to eat with all his buddies, he likes to know his Mom made his sandwich.

    Sorry Jessica…felt a nudge there…

I will trust God that He knows my daughter's heart and that she KNOWS she can coming running back down the Prodigal Road and we'll be here.

    1. Totally cool, Jennifer! 🙂 Praying your prodigal comes home. Hugs!

  11. I love this verse, and I love how you broke it down. We do need to dwell on His faithfulness, for it's by meditating on the great things He has done that we're encouraged and strengthened to trust in Him more and more completely. Thanks for sharing. 🙂
