Would You Rather…? With Melissa, Matthew & Miranda

Happy
Monday morning, everyone! I’m totally stoked to have author and dear friend,
Melissa Tagg visiting all week long! If you don’t know, Melissa’s debut novel
recently released, Made to Last. I, personally, loved it. So here’s how this week
is going to roll out:

Today,
we’re playing Would You Rather with not just Melissa, but her main characters
from Made to Last, Matthew and Miranda!

Wednesday,
Melissa will be sharing the Wednesday devotional. Next week, we’ll continue our
series on humility.

And
Friday, our local book club, Faith Readers, will share our group review of Made
to Last. So join in all week for some serious fun!

Let’s
get started, shall we?

Would You Rather…?

…walk across hot coals or a
bed of nails (pointing up!) Hey it’s a DIY edition-nails lol

Miranda: Bed of nails,
totally. Because I’ve stepped on enough nails in my life to know I won’t
die…and I can run fast.

Matthew: Whichever one would
impress Miranda more.

Melissa: Nails! Wearing
really thick work boots. Because you totally didn’t specify that I had to be barefoot!

…swim in shark infested
waters or cross a swamp of crocodiles (they fell in the water in the novel, so it’s
appropriate).

Miranda: Swamp of crocodiles!
And I would take a gun. I feel like crocodiles might be easier to shoot than
sharks.

Matthew: Swamp of
crocodiles…with Miranda and her gun.

Melissa: Swamp of crocodiles…with
Matthew and Miranda and her gun.  And that alligator wrestler I met once
in Florida. Wrestling crocodiles can’t be that much different than alligators,
right?

…fall in love and lose it or
never have fallen in love?

Miranda: At the beginning of
my book I would’ve totally said never fallen in love. By the end, yup, fall in
love and lose it. Because I’ve survived it once…

Matthew: Fall in love and
lose it. Because I feel like that’s the more romantic answer and I’m a cool
enough guy to be able to admit that romance is good.

Melissa: What they said. 🙂

You all crack me up and I think you finagled
yourself out of really answering that last question, Tagg.

What say y’all?
Answer one or all the questions below.

Here are my answers:

Nails. I think there’s an art to it that I could
figure out, and to run on hot coals may require demonic possession and I’m not
into that sort of thing. (Don’t you watch the Discovery channel?)

Sharks. While neither excite me, I think one
chomp and I’m done for. Crocs take you down with that whole death roll thing,
jamming you in a log to tenderize you, or at least, that’s what Crocodile
Dundee says.

I say love and lose it. Memories might be
painful but God would heal them and then it’d be okay to look back and remember
the beautiful moments.

See you Wednesday!

Buy Made to Last!
Here’s a peek!

Miranda Woodruff has it all. At least, that’s
how it looks when she’s starring in her homebuilding television show, From
the Ground Up. So when her network begins to talk about making cuts, she’ll
do anything to boost ratings and save her show–even if it means pretending to
be married to a man who’s definitely not the fiance who ran out on her three
years ago.

When a handsome reporter starts shadowing Miranda’s every move, all his digging
into her personal life brings him a little too close to the truth–and to her.
Can the girl whose entire identity is wrapped up in her on-screen persona
finally find the nerve to set the record straight? And if she does, will the
life she’s built come crashing down just as she’s found a love to last?

  1. How cool to see two such fun, talented, beautiful, smile-inducing women at the same place. That's my kind of two-fer.

I finished Melissa's book three nights ago. Actually, since it was so good that I stayed up until 2:00 a.m. to complete my read because I was having too much fun to put the book down, I suppose I should say I finished it two days ago. Loved the story, her characters, her voice. I could gush a whole lot more, but I'm gonna save some of my compliments for my glowing 5-star review. 🙂

I'll answer the nails vs hot coals question. Nails. Gwynly is a chemistry teacher who has actually lain on a bed of nails. I don't remember why exactly, but he said it doesn't hurt. Something to do with weight distribution and all that. So, I figure he could tell me how to walk those nails without doing my feet in. The thought of walking on hot coals, however, totally freaks me out. Therefore, since I figure there must be some mind control aspect to it, I'd be starting at a disadvantage. So nails it is.

    1. Aw! Thanks, Keli!! So glad to see you visiting today. I loved her book too. Our book club is actually skyping with her tomorrow night. Yay us! I knew there was a trick to it. Nails is the way to go if you have to choose.

  2. Jess, this was so fun! 🙂 And yes, I did finagle my way out of that last question. Also, finagling is a funny word.

Keli, I love your answer. I actually wondered that about nails…if it has something to do with evening distributing weight. I actually did step on a nail once in a corn bin at a farm I used to play at as a kid. I stepped on it RIGHT after telling my sister to be careful not to step on a nail. It went up through my shoe…funny thing is, I remember thinking at the time, "This hurts, but not nearly as bad as you'd think it would."

    1. It is fun! And yes, finagle–totally funny word.

  3. Hmmm…I'm answering the physically pain free one. Love it and lose it. At least then I'll still have all my limbs in tact.

    Love you both!

    1. Easy way out. That's all I'm saying. Easy. Way. Out. Love you back, friend!

  4. Fun stuff!!

Um, I guess nails because that seems like it'd heal faster than hot coals. Although Pam walked across hot coals in The Office and survived…

And NO SHARKS. I cannot specify this enough. Am I being arrogant to think you purposefully used that question to get a rise out of me, Jess? 😛

And love and lose. A life without love…isn't life.

    Love you both!!! 😀

    1. Arrogant? Nah! I did think of you though when my friend sent me a picture of shark socks. I so wanted them and all my friends to have a pair too, so… 😉

      Yes, Pam!!!

    2. Pam! Oh I miss The Office…the good seasons, anyway. 🙂

  5. I'm with Lindsay…Love and lose. To never know love? Unfathomable! 🙂

    1. Agreed! I think we should all know it, at least in some form.

  6. Just finished Made to Last – and it was great!

I'm thinking hot coals would be preferable to nails. I think I could deal with the heat better than I could the sharp pain.

And I'm no Diana Nyad, but I'd like to think I could get away from a shark if I needed to. I'm not so graceful on land!

    1. I don't think you could get away from a shark. They come straight up out of nowhere and at mock speed. You have a better shot swimming across the swamp. But I still say shark. lol

Hot coals?? Refer back to my answer and I'm telling Pastor we need to drag you to the altar! lol

    2. Yay, I'm glad you liked MTL!!

  7. Sorry, typos in the above comment.
To have loved and lost…I have, by my own choice on the losing part, but I have a beautiful daughter from the love part. I will never regret it. You also learn how to make it better the next time around, which I did – still going strong 20 some years later.

    1. Yay for no regrets and for 20 years and going strong. 🙂

  8. What a fun interview! I'd take hot coals and just run really fast. And how about a room full of puppies instead of sharks or crocs? 🙂 Maybe sharks? I know if you hit them in the nose you give yourself some time. You can thank Shark Week for that knowledge and me actually thinking about it in depth :). Not sure if crocs have a weakness….

    1. Puppies! 🙂 I like that option a lot.

  9. HI, Melissa and Jessica!
I'm with Jess: nail, sharks, love and lost. 🙂

I so want to read this book!
